COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Energy Engineering with Environmental Management is a year-long program designed to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in energy engineering and environmental management. The course is structured around 120 credits of taught modules, followed by a 60-credit dissertation. The taught modules are divided into compulsory and optional components, starting with an essential module in the autumn term to bring all students up to a unified standard in engineering mathematics and energy engineering fundamentals. This module includes key topics like thermodynamics and fluid mechanics, along with practical work in modern laboratory facilities. It also caters to a diverse group of students, including those from non-engineering backgrounds, by offering foundational knowledge in energy engineering. In addition to academic learning, the course emphasizes networking and industry connections, with opportunities to participate in team exercises, presentations to professionals, and attendance at trade social events such as the East of England Energy Group's Christmas Ball. The course integrates real-world context through industry lectures, site visits, and collaborations with companies, such as visits to wind turbine vessels, gas processing plants, and nuclear power stations. The dissertation, a key component of the program, offers students the chance to work on individual projects with the possibility of industry placements. This hands-on approach is further supported by the university’s strong ties with industry partners, providing valuable opportunities for career development. Additionally, students benefit from specialized project management training as part of their dissertation work.
