COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Economics is a rigorous 12-month postgraduate program designed to provide students with a strong foundation in economic theory and applied econometrics while offering the flexibility to tailor studies through a range of optional modules. The course begins in September with a Pre-Sessional course and continues with two main teaching semesters, culminating in a dissertation project over the summer.In the Autumn semester, students focus on core concepts in microeconomics and econometric theory. The Microeconomics module explores advanced theoretical frameworks such as demand and firm theory, game theory, and information economics, while the Econometric Theory module builds a strong mathematical and conceptual base in regression analysis, focusing on topics like endogeneity, heteroscedasticity, and instrumental variables. Both modules integrate practical applications using real-world data and econometric software.The Spring semester continues with Macroeconomics, where students engage with dynamic general equilibrium models to understand the broader performance of entire economies. This is complemented by Applied Econometrics, which introduces time series analysis and microeconometric techniques including panel data and binary response models. The module focuses heavily on practical applications using STATA, ensuring students are prepared for empirical research.Dissertation training begins during the Spring semester and continues into early summer with lab-based workshops. Students are supported in developing a research question, sourcing data, and designing a methodology. They can either pursue a traditional academic dissertation or engage in an external consultancy project with a business or organization. Supervised over several months, the dissertation allows students to apply the skills acquired throughout the program to a focused research topic of their choice.Overall, the MSc Economics equips students with a deep understanding of economic theory, strong quantitative and analytical skills, and practical experience in empirical research, preparing them for careers in academia, public policy, consulting, or the financial sector.
