COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Economics and International Relations is a 12-month interdisciplinary program that begins with a pre-sessional course in September and spans three taught modules per semester, followed by a dissertation in the summer. In the autumn, students receive core training in micro and macroeconomic theory and econometrics, gaining the skills necessary for data analysis and economic modeling using STATA. Spring semester offers a selection of optional modules allowing students to focus on their interests within economics or international relations. One of the compulsory spring modules introduces International Relations theory, emphasizing key debates, epistemology, and the nature of international cooperation, power, and exploitation. Dissertation training begins in the spring with workshops and lectures that prepare students to develop their research proposals, conduct literature reviews, gather and analyze data, and apply econometric methods. This preparation continues into the early summer with practical sessions focused on dissertation writing and research tools. Students may choose between a traditional dissertation or an external consultancy project with a business, charity, or organization. The final dissertation is submitted at the end of August. The program also includes modules like International Trade, which explore contemporary global economic issues, such as globalization and the distribution of trade benefits and drawbacks. Overall, this course equips students with advanced analytical tools, a strong grounding in economic theory, and a critical understanding of international relations, providing a well-rounded foundation for careers in policy, research, or international organizations.
