COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience is a one-year full-time or two-year part-time program that offers students an in-depth understanding of how the brain supports cognition, both in healthy individuals and those with clinical conditions. This course is designed for those interested in exploring perception, memory, decision-making, and other cognitive functions through advanced research training. Students will study three core modules and complete a dissertation, with the opportunity to select an optional module that aligns with their interests. The core curriculum includes an introduction to cognitive neuroscience, covering topics like fMRI, EEG, TMS, and lesion-symptom mapping, along with practical sessions in data analysis. Another key module introduces students to MRI research techniques, focusing on experimental design, programming, and data acquisition using fMRI, all delivered within the context of a neuroimaging experiment. The dissertation component allows students to pursue independent research on a topic of their choice under expert supervision, with previous projects exploring diverse areas such as facial emotion perception, attentional bias, and the neural basis of memory. In addition to academic study, students can take part in a placement, which provides valuable real-world experience and helps strengthen professional networks. This flexible placement can take place in research institutions, clinical settings, or other relevant environments. The program is particularly beneficial for students aiming to pursue a research career or PhD, offering strong training in experimental design, data analysis, and the use of cognitive neuroscience tools.
