COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Artificial Intelligence is a 12-month full-time course that includes both compulsory and optional modules, alongside a dissertation. For part-time students, the course duration is extended to 24 or 36 months. The structure of the course is designed to balance workload, with full-time students completing taught modules in two semesters and part-time students taking fewer modules each year. The compulsory modules include the Dissertation, Professional Skills for Computer Scientists, and Advanced Artificial Intelligence. The Dissertation module requires students to undertake substantial research and practical work on a topic chosen either from faculty proposals or independently, with approval from a supervisor. This research project spans from January to late August, and students must write a dissertation based on their findings. The Professional Skills module focuses on equipping students with the necessary skills to navigate the legal, social, and ethical challenges of computer science. It also covers essential competencies like literature review, report writing, project management, and presentation skills. The Advanced Artificial Intelligence module builds on foundational knowledge of AI, introducing students to advanced topics such as natural language processing, deep learning, and large language models. It also covers recent advancements in AI technologies like reinforcement learning, transformer models, and artificial general intelligence. Throughout the course, students can choose from a range of optional modules that explore various aspects of AI, including programming and its applications. The program is designed to provide both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, preparing graduates for careers in the rapidly evolving field of AI.
