COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s program in Computer Science offers a comprehensive structure that combines advanced modules with a substantial research component, aimed at developing both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Students complete six 20-credit modules, two of which are compulsory, alongside a 60-credit dissertation. The compulsory modules are designed to equip students with essential professional skills and research competencies. One such module focuses on professional skills for computer scientists, helping students understand the broader societal impact of their work while teaching them to read, present, and write about scientific literature effectively. The dissertation module begins in January and runs through to August, giving students the opportunity to carry out an in-depth research project. Students can select a topic from faculty-provided options or propose their own, subject to approval. Past projects have explored a diverse range of topics, such as speech reconstruction, sentiment classification of tweets, augmented reality mobile games, AI in gaming, and comparing computing platforms like MPI and GPU in the cloud. The dissertation is evaluated based on both the written report and a practical demonstration of the final deliverable. The optional modules allow students to tailor their learning to match their interests and career goals, with choices ranging from artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction to computer vision, cybersecurity, and data science. Throughout the course, students gain hands-on experience in data analysis, programming, and systems development while learning to manage complex datasets using advanced statistical methods. The structure ensures a balanced mix of theory and practice, making graduates well-equipped for roles in industry, research, or further academic study. Overall, the program fosters critical thinking, technical proficiency, and communication skills—key attributes for a successful career in computer science.
