COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s in Clinical Education program is designed to enhance both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in teaching and research within clinical settings. The majority of the program focuses on a 100-credit dissertation, where students select a research question related to clinical education and undertake a quantitative or qualitative study, or a systematic review. Throughout the program, students engage in several compulsory modules that develop their teaching, research, and leadership abilities. These modules include topics such as enhancing teaching, learning, and assessment in clinical education, which focuses on applying educational theory in practice-based settings, and leading teaching and learning, which helps students advance their leadership skills as educators. The introduction to research methods module provides foundational knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative research techniques, helping students critically appraise literature and apply research to improve educational practices. Students also explore contemporary trends in clinical education, including the use of technology and innovative methods to enhance learning. To support the dissertation, students have access to teaching opportunities that help them apply theoretical knowledge to real-world teaching situations. If necessary, the course director will help students find suitable opportunities. The research dissertation, which makes up a significant part of the program, involves conducting a study related to teaching and learning in clinical practice and producing a 15,000-word written submission. This final project, combined with the comprehensive modules, ensures that students develop the skills to lead in clinical education, improve teaching practices, and contribute to the field through research. The course also prepares students for advanced roles in clinical education, with an emphasis on integrating theory with practice.
