COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Globalisation, Business and Sustainable Development is a one-year, full-time program that explores the complex relationships between global economic processes and sustainable development. The course offers an interdisciplinary approach, focusing on how global production is structured and the roles played by the state, businesses, and civil society. A key area of study is corporate social responsibility, with attention to how companies interact with local communities, manage environmental impact, and address human rights concerns. Particular emphasis is placed on the extractive industries in developing countries, offering students real-world case studies to critically evaluate. The program also examines the broader process of globalisation, often described as one of the most transformative developments in recent human history. Through this lens, students explore debates around the drivers and consequences of globalisation, including its effects on economic development, poverty, inequality, conflict, and the environment. In addition to the theoretical components, the program includes training in research methods to prepare students for their final project. Students can choose between writing a dissertation or completing a work placement with an approved organisation, followed by an analytical report. Both options are designed to allow students to apply their learning to real-world issues and tailor their studies to their specific interests. Throughout the year, students benefit from a range of seminars and workshops that support academic writing, research skills, and professional development. Development practice training is also provided, offering practical skills relevant to careers in the field. By the end of the course, students will have developed a critical understanding of global economic dynamics, sustainability challenges, and the tools needed to engage with them in academic, policy, or business contexts.
