This MA in Broadcast and Digital Journalism with a theoretical focus offers a dynamic blend of hands-on journalism training and critical media analysis. Throughout the year, you’ll develop core skills in audio and video recording, editing, and storytelling for radio, television, and digital platforms. From day one, you’ll generate and pursue your own news stories, often within the local community, and collaborate in professional-style teams to produce high-quality broadcast content.In the second semester, your practical training expands to include data and investigative journalism, podcasting, and mobile journalism, equipping you to meet the demands of modern newsrooms. You'll also complete a substantial final project – the *Extended Journalism Project* – which showcases your production skills in either video, audio, or a multimedia 'long read', backed by reflective analysis of your editorial and technical process.In tandem with this practice-based work, the course encourages deep critical thinking through modules like *Media & Society: Technologies, Content and Users*, which provides an interdisciplinary foundation in media theory. You’ll explore how media content is shaped, regulated, and received within global and cultural frameworks, with attention to the social and political implications of digital media and evolving communication technologies.Your learning journey is further enriched with an optional module, enabling you to tailor the course to your specific interests—whether in journalism specialisms, political communication, or media ethics.
