COURSE CURRICULUM

This LLM in International Trade Law focuses on the complexities of cross-border trade and commerce from a legal perspective. Students will study the transnational nature of international trade transactions and the legal solutions that have emerged, particularly through the work of international organizations such as UNCITRAL and UNIDROIT. The program covers key areas of international trade law, including international sales, the carriage of goods by sea, commercial payments, and dispute resolution across borders. A central theme of the course is the harmonization of law, exploring how different legal systems and international efforts work to standardize trade laws and practices. Students will have the opportunity to delve into specialized areas of interest within international trade law. The course includes a compulsory non-credit-bearing module on Postgraduate Legal Skills, which equips students with essential research and study techniques for the LLM year. The only other compulsory module is the dissertation, where students will undertake independent research on a topic related to international trade law. Additionally, with the consent of the Course Director, students can select modules from other postgraduate courses offered at UEA, such as International Relations, Business, or Economics, allowing for further customization of their studies. The program is designed to provide both a broad understanding of international trade law and the flexibility to focus on areas that align with students’ professional and academic interests.
