COURSE CURRICULUM

The Actuarial Science degree is structured to provide students with a solid foundation in mathematics, computing, economics, and business over four years. In the first year, students are introduced to core subjects such as calculus, financial mathematics, programming, probability, and economics. These foundational modules are designed to develop essential mathematical and problem-solving skills, with options to focus on either traditional actuarial science or data science. Students will also hone their communication and presentation skills, which are crucial for careers in the financial sector. In the second year, the program dives deeper into actuarial topics, including differential equations, linear algebra, mathematical statistics, and actuarial financial mathematics. Students have the option to choose between modules focusing on financial accounting or advanced computing skills. The third year offers a hands-on industrial placement, providing valuable work experience with well-known companies in the financial sector. Students will have the chance to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting, enhancing their skills and professional network. In the final year, students focus on advanced actuarial methods, including stochastic processes, survival models, and further contingencies. There is also an option to undertake a dissertation or a module in partnership with practicing actuaries.
