COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of your psychology studies, you will focus on developing a strong foundation in psychological theory and research, particularly in how this knowledge applies to the real world. The first-year module, "Introduction to Psychology," is a 120-credit course that covers five main themes: constructing psychology, explaining behavior, questioning reality, understanding yourself, and applying psychology to real-world contexts. Lectures and seminars will expose you to different perspectives in psychological science, and you'll also gain an introduction to both quantitative and qualitative research methods.In Year 2, you will continue to deepen your understanding of psychology with compulsory modules that explore various branches of the field. Topics include Social and Developmental Psychology, Cognitive and Biological Psychology, and Psychology in Context, along with modules focusing on experimental methods and individual differences. You’ll also have the opportunity to choose from a range of optional modules that could enhance your career prospects or personal interests, such as creative writing or business. These modules build on the foundational skills from Year 1, introducing more advanced topics such as statistical analysis, neuroanatomy, and theories of personality and intelligence.In Year 3, you will study abroad at one of the university's partner institutions, allowing you to gain international experience and broaden your academic perspective. The year abroad module will carry 120 credits and provide valuable exposure to different educational systems and cultural contexts.Finally, in Year 4, you will undertake a substantial research project that allows you to demonstrate your independent research skills and apply the knowledge gained in earlier years. This project will be supported by a supervisor who will guide you in formulating a research question, managing data collection, and writing your final report. Alongside the research project, you will select from a wide range of optional modules to specialize further in areas of psychology or to explore cross-disciplinary perspectives. The final year allows you to hone your research and analytical skills, preparing you for professional work or further academic study in psychology.
