COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng Mechanical Engineering with a Year Abroad at the University of East Anglia is a dynamic and well-rounded program designed to prepare students for a successful career in engineering. The course begins with a foundational first year, where students are introduced to essential engineering principles such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, materials, electronics, and structures. These are taught through active learning, including lab sessions, experimentation, and group design projects that simulate real-world engineering challenges.In the second year, students build on their foundational knowledge with more specialised topics such as dynamics and vibration, stress analysis, thermofluids, and materials science. A highlight of this year is the engineering design project, where students apply creative and technical skills to complex, multidisciplinary problems, such as designing an electric car for competitions like Formula 24+.The third year is spent studying abroad at one of UEA’s international partner universities. This unique opportunity allows students to broaden their academic and personal horizons by studying engineering in a global context, developing cross-cultural communication skills, and enhancing their adaptability and independence.In the final year, students return to UEA to study advanced topics including control systems and Industry 4.0 principles. The program culminates in an individual major project, which can involve research, design, experimentation, or industry collaboration. Throughout all four years, strong emphasis is placed on developing employability skills such as teamwork, communication, project management, and critical thinking, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for careers in engineering and beyond.
