COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of your Economics degree, you'll develop a solid foundation in the core areas of microeconomics and macroeconomics. The microeconomics module explores how individuals and firms make decisions in a market economy, while the macroeconomics module introduces key concepts such as GDP, inflation, and fiscal and monetary policy. You'll also gain essential mathematical and statistical skills, including basic mathematical techniques and introductory econometrics, which will be crucial for analyzing economic data in later years. For students without an A-level in mathematics, an introductory mathematics module will equip you with the necessary skills to tackle economic problems using mathematical models and Excel.The year also covers applied economics, with modules on current economic affairs and the economics of business decision-making. These will allow you to connect theory with real-world issues, such as consumer behavior, market failures, and strategic decisions made by businesses. You’ll begin to understand how economic principles shape everyday decisions, from those of individuals to large organizations.Additionally, the course provides valuable support through the "ECO STEPS" module, which focuses on academic, personal, and professional development. This includes workshops on employability, wellbeing, and language support, ensuring that you not only excel academically but also enhance your skills for future career success. By the end of the year, you'll have the tools to continue exploring economics at a deeper level and tailor your studies to areas that interest you most.
