COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, the focus is on building a strong foundation in key areas of economics, such as microeconomics and macroeconomics, alongside essential mathematical and statistical methods. The "Introductory Mathematics for Economists" module equips students with the basic mathematical skills necessary for economic analysis, especially if they do not have an A-level in mathematics. Through this module, students will learn to apply mathematical techniques to economics using tools like Excel for solving optimization problems and drawing graphs. In the "Statistics and Data Analytics for Economists" module, students are introduced to statistical tools, enabling them to analyze and visualize real-world data, which prepares them for more advanced econometrics modules in later years.Additionally, the "Current Economic Affairs" module engages students with real-world economic problems, developing their ability to critically assess economic events and policies. The "Economics of Business Decision-Making" delves into behavioral economics, helping students understand consumer, worker, and managerial decision-making processes. Other core modules like "Introductory Microeconomics" and "Introductory Macroeconomics" provide students with the core theoretical frameworks needed to analyze individual and firm behavior, as well as broader economic phenomena like fiscal policy, inflation, and unemployment.For students without advanced math skills, the introductory mathematics module ensures they can keep up with the quantitative elements of the course.
