COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of this degree, students gain foundational skills in programming, digital media, and the media industries. The core modules cover object-oriented programming using Java, web-based programming with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and basic filmmaking and TV studio production techniques. Students will learn practical skills such as camera work, lighting, sound, and editing through hands-on experience. Additionally, the module on media industries offers a deeper understanding of how media products are created, distributed, and consumed, focusing on the economic, political, and regulatory aspects of the industry. By the end of the first year, students will have a broad base of knowledge in both computing and media production, setting them up for more specialized study in the following years.In the second year, students build on their programming skills by learning C and C++, as well as exploring the exciting world of 3D computer graphics. They also have the opportunity to delve deeper into areas like digital editing, cross-media adaptation, or creative writing. A placement module is available, giving students the chance to gain valuable industry experience and expand their professional network. These experiences, combined with core modules like Programming 2 and Computer Graphics, help students develop the technical and creative skills necessary for success in the digital media and computing industries.The third year offers students a unique opportunity to study abroad at one of UEA's partner institutions. This year abroad enriches students' academic and personal growth by offering a different cultural perspective on their studies. In the final year, students can further specialize by taking modules in game and mobile app development, AI, machine learning, and digital storytelling, culminating in the opportunity to work on a final project or dissertation.
