COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics degree program is structured to develop a comprehensive understanding of economic theory and its practical applications over four years. In the first year, students build a solid foundation in microeconomics and macroeconomics, exploring individual and firm decision-making, government fiscal and monetary policies, and how behavioural insights influence economic choices. Mathematical and statistical methods are introduced, with tailored support for those without prior qualifications in mathematics, ensuring all students are equipped for more advanced modules. Core subjects such as statistics, business decision-making, and current economic affairs help students apply economic theories to real-world scenarios. The second year deepens this knowledge through modules like intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics, as well as econometrics, which teaches students to use statistical tools to analyse data and test economic theories. Students also explore corporate finance and have the option to study topics like game theory, behavioural economics, and global trade. In the third year, students study abroad at one of the university’s international partner institutions, gaining exposure to new cultures and academic environments while choosing modules that align with their interests and career goals. The final year focuses on industrial organisation and business strategy, examining market competition, firm behaviour, and the role of government regulation. Students can specialise further through optional modules in areas like environmental economics, public policy, and finance, or by completing a dissertation or consulting project. Continuous support is provided through the ECO STEPS module, offering academic, wellbeing, and employability resources to help students succeed throughout their studies.
