COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Biomedicine program at UEA offers students a comprehensive and dynamic education, blending theoretical knowledge with practical skills in biomedicine, biochemistry, molecular biology, and human physiology. In Year 1, students are introduced to the fundamental principles of these fields through core modules such as Introduction to Biomedicine, which explores human disease at the molecular and cellular level, and Biological Chemistry, which covers the chemical basis of biochemical systems. Modules like Cell Biology and Physiology and Molecular Biology and Genetics further build students' understanding of key biological processes. Alongside these subjects, students also develop essential scientific skills through Professional Skills for Biosciences, focusing on areas such as data analysis, teamwork, and ethics in science. In Year 2, students deepen their knowledge with modules like Human Physiology, which explores organ systems and disease mechanisms, and Clinical Genetics, which examines the role of genetics in modern clinical practice. The Investigation of Human Disease module offers practical insights into laboratory-based research, linking biochemistry and disease diagnosis. Year 3 provides an exciting opportunity for students to study abroad, expanding their academic horizons and experiencing biomedicine from an international perspective. In Year 4, students tailor their education through a range of optional modules and undertake a substantial Research Project, applying their learning to real-world biomedical challenges. The program culminates with Translational Biomedicine, where students explore the development of therapeutic strategies and the molecular mechanisms behind diseases, preparing them for a successful career in biomedical research or clinical applications.
