COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environmental Science and Geography degree offers a comprehensive pathway designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to tackle global environmental challenges. In the first year, students engage with fundamental topics such as climate change, pollution, biodiversity, and Earth systems. They gain hands-on experience through fieldwork, laboratory practicals, and data analysis, helping to build a strong foundation in both the scientific principles and research methods that are essential for understanding environmental issues.The second year offers greater flexibility, allowing students to tailor their studies to specific areas of interest, including geophysics, ecology, environmental assessment, or social research. A key focus is on developing independent research skills, with students working on project proposals and preparing for their final-year projects. The Research Practice module provides a practical understanding of project management, which is essential for future careers in research or consultancy.In the third year, students undertake a placement in an industry-related role, gaining valuable real-world experience in fields such as environmental consultancy, government, or non-governmental organizations (NGOs). This year provides an excellent opportunity to develop employability skills and apply academic knowledge in a professional setting.Finally, the fourth year is dedicated to an independent project, allowing students to delve deeper into a specific environmental issue. They are guided by academic supervisors to collect, analyze, and interpret data, with the project serving as a capstone to their studies. The combination of theoretical learning, practical experience, and independent research prepares graduates for careers in environmental science, policy, and consultancy.
