COURSE CURRICULUM

In your first year, you will establish a strong foundation in both microeconomics and macroeconomics. The focus will be on understanding how individuals and firms make decisions, as well as how governments’ fiscal and monetary policies affect the economy. You will also be introduced to essential mathematical and statistical techniques, which are fundamental for any economist. A key part of the year is applying these theoretical concepts to real-world issues, giving you an understanding of how economic models can be used to solve practical problems. If you do not have an A-level in mathematics or equivalent qualifications, an introductory module will provide you with the mathematical skills needed for economics. Throughout the year, you will delve into areas such as consumer theory, market failure, and the role of government in regulating economies. Additionally, you will explore how behavioral economics provides insights into decision-making, looking at psychological factors that influence consumers, workers, and managers. By the end of Year 1, you will have a solid understanding of economic principles and the analytical skills required for more advanced study in economics. The foundation laid in this year will be essential for applying your knowledge in the second and third years, where you will explore more specialized topics such as econometrics, game theory, and data analytics.
