COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year, students begin by building a solid foundation in both computing and digital media. They are introduced to object-oriented programming with Java and web-based programming using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, alongside essential mathematics skills. Practical filmmaking and TV studio production techniques are also emphasized, allowing students to develop hands-on experience in areas such as camera work, lighting, sound, and editing. Additionally, the "Media Industries" module helps students understand the broader context of the media world, covering the economic, political, and regulatory structures that shape the industry. The year ends with a solid understanding of both the technical and creative aspects of the digital media and computing fields.In the second year, the program dives deeper into programming, with students learning C and C++ for more low-level programming skills and exploring the fundamentals of computer graphics. A key part of the second year is the opportunity for students to choose optional modules, allowing them to specialize in areas like software development, digital editing, or cross-media adaptation. This year also provides an introduction to creative writing, enhancing the storytelling skills required in the digital creative industries.The third year offers a chance to gain real-world experience through a year-long placement. Students secure a placement, supported by UEA’s extensive connections, where they apply their knowledge in a professional setting. The placement allows them to gain valuable employability skills while working in their field of interest.In the final year, students complete a compulsory module in Game and Mobile App Development, which emphasizes practical skills using the Unity 3D engine. They can also choose to explore advanced topics like AI, machine learning, or digital storytelling. The year culminates in a major project or dissertation, where students bring together the skills developed throughout their degree to tackle complex challenges.
