COURSE CURRICULUM

In your first year, the curriculum is designed to establish a strong foundation in both microeconomics and macroeconomics. You’ll explore microeconomics, which focuses on decision-making by individuals and firms, while macroeconomics covers government fiscal and monetary policies and their impact on the economy. The year emphasizes essential mathematical and statistical modelling techniques used by economists. Additionally, you’ll gain insights into how various factors like economic, political, cultural, and technological elements affect business operations through modules provided by the Norwich Business School. You’ll also gain a basic understanding of accounting theory and practice. For those without A-level mathematics or equivalent qualifications, an introductory mathematics module will ensure you have the necessary mathematical skills for your economics studies.In your second year, you will deepen your understanding of microeconomics and macroeconomics, alongside acquiring skills in econometrics, which will help you apply statistical methods to economic questions. You’ll formalize your knowledge of financial principles through a corporate finance module and choose from a range of optional modules provided by the Norwich Business School. These modules cover areas such as financial reporting, management accounting, audit, corporate taxation, and business law.In your third year, you will undertake a full-time placement for 9 to 12 months, gaining practical work experience in your field of interest. While securing your own placement, you’ll have dedicated support from the Careers Service and the School of Economics. Support continues during your placement and when you return to complete your final year.Your final year allows you to specialize further in the financial sector, with modules on behavioural finance, financial markets, alternative investments, and risk management. You can choose from optional modules focusing on advanced topics in economics, business, or accounting, and have the opportunity to write a dissertation or engage in a consulting project.
