COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Biomedicine program at UEA is a comprehensive four-year degree designed to provide students with a strong foundation in biomedicine, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, and human physiology. In the first year, students are introduced to essential scientific principles through core modules like Introduction to Biomedicine, which covers the molecular basis of human disease, and Biological Chemistry, which explores the chemical processes underpinning cellular metabolism. Additional modules such as Cell Biology and Physiology and Molecular Biology and Genetics further develop students' understanding of the biological systems essential for human health. The first year also emphasizes practical skills in research techniques, data analysis, and professional development through the Professional Skills for Biosciences module.In the second year, the program builds on this foundation with modules like Human Physiology, which delves into the functioning of human organ systems, and Clinical Genetics, which explores the role of genetics in diagnosing and treating diseases. The Investigation of Human Disease module provides hands-on laboratory experience, linking clinical biochemistry to real-world medical applications.Year 3 offers an exciting opportunity for students to gain practical experience through a work placement, allowing them to apply their knowledge in a professional setting. In the final year, students focus on specialized areas through optional modules, including Translational Biomedicine, and complete a substantial Research Project. This research experience provides students with the opportunity to engage in independent, hypothesis-driven research, preparing them for careers in biomedical science or further academic study.
