COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of this comprehensive three-year Environmental Science and Geography course, students are introduced to a wide range of essential topics and skills that will serve as the foundation for their academic journey. The curriculum begins with compulsory modules such as Our World, where students explore global environmental challenges like climate change, pollution, and natural hazards. These issues are examined through the combined lens of physical and human geography, offering an integrated perspective on their causes and potential solutions. The Sustainability Challenges and Solutions module focuses on sustainability concepts, from carbon footprints to environmental justice, helping students understand the importance of sustainable development at various scales.The Living Planet module dives into biodiversity, biogeography, and the human impact on ecosystems, setting the stage for conservation strategies. Meanwhile, Earth Systems explores the interconnected physical processes of the planet, such as plate tectonics, weather systems, and biogeochemical cycles. Complementing these theoretical modules are two critical skills-focused courses—Data and Research Skills A and Data and Research Skills B—designed to teach students practical methods of data collection, analysis, and interpretation using both quantitative and qualitative research techniques.A key feature of the first year is the hands-on learning provided through field courses, including a residential trip, where students can apply their classroom knowledge in real-world settings. These foundational modules, paired with fieldwork and academic skills development, prepare students for the more specialized study and independent research in the following years of the program.
