COURSE CURRICULUM

The psychology program spans four years, beginning with a foundational year focused on understanding psychological theory and research, with an emphasis on real-world applications. In Year 1, you’ll study one 120-credit module, Introduction to Psychology, which covers five key themes: constructing psychology, explaining behavior, questioning reality, understanding yourself, and applying psychology to the real world. The module introduces both quantitative and qualitative research methods, equipping you with essential skills for psychological inquiry.In Year 2, the curriculum expands to include core modules like Social and Developmental Psychology, Cognitive and Biological Psychology, Psychology in Context, Experimental Psychological Analysis, and Assessing and Analyzing Individual Differences. These modules deepen your knowledge in areas such as social perception, cognitive processes, brain function, and individual differences. You also have the opportunity to select optional modules, allowing you to tailor your studies based on personal interests or career aspirations, such as a creative writing or business module.Year 3 focuses on gaining practical experience through a work placement or internship, where you can apply your knowledge in a professional setting. This year provides a valuable opportunity to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world practice.In Year 4, you’ll undertake a major research project, allowing you to demonstrate your ability to conduct independent, empirical research. You’ll also take the core module Social Perception and Behaviour: From Individuals to Relationships to Groups, which explores key social psychological theories and research. Additionally, you can choose from a range of optional modules to specialize further in specific areas of psychology or adopt an interdisciplinary approach. This final year gives you the opportunity to hone your research skills and focus on topics that align with your intellectual and career goals.
