COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1 of the Physiotherapy degree, students focus on building a strong foundation in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for clinical practice. The year includes a mix of profession-specific and interdisciplinary modules, such as Human Sciences, which covers the bio-psychosocial processes of human function, and Physiotherapy Theory and Practice 1, where students apply theoretical knowledge to real-world case studies. The year also emphasizes the importance of evidence-based practice, professional development, and interprofessional learning, allowing students to reflect on their growing skills and engage in mandatory training required for clinical practice. This foundation sets the stage for developing professionalism, safe practice, and reflective learning, helping students understand the legal and ethical boundaries of their profession. In Year 2, students deepen their knowledge and experience, engaging in further practice placements and exploring more complex physiotherapy interventions related to musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardiovascular systems. The Evidence Based Practice 2 module builds on Year 1's research methods, equipping students with the skills to critically appraise research and apply it to clinical decision-making. Professional Development, Employability, and Practice Education 2 helps students further refine their leadership and employability skills, preparing them for advanced practice and service improvement in healthcare. Finally, in Year 3, students consolidate their learning through more advanced practice placements and the opportunity to specialize in areas of interest through an elective placement. The final year also includes modules that focus on preparing students for independent practice, including Physiotherapy Professional Theory and Practice 3, which explores the role of physiotherapists in promoting health, restoring function, and preventing illness. Evidence-Based Practice 3 enables students to apply research to their practice and engage in literature reviews, while Professional Development, Employability, and Practice Education 3 prepares students for their transition into the workforce by fostering self-reflection and critical evaluation of their skills and career goals.
