COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the BSc Pharmacology and Drug Discovery program, students are introduced to the foundational concepts necessary for understanding drug actions and development. Modules cover key areas such as medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, neuropharmacology, drug delivery, and pharmacokinetics, with practical lab sessions to apply theoretical knowledge. Additionally, a business studies course provides insights into management practices, while professional development is emphasized with training on CV writing and cover letters. Core modules like "Fundamentals in Pharmacology" and "Core Skills in Pharmacology and Drug Discovery" ensure students gain essential laboratory skills, an understanding of molecular biology, and a foundation in bioinformatics and drug receptor interactions. In the second year, students delve deeper into systems pharmacology, studying specific biological systems like the cardiovascular, renal, and central nervous systems, while also exploring disease areas such as cancer and infectious diseases. The practical component enhances skills in medicinal chemistry and molecular pharmacology. In the final year, students focus on research, undertaking a significant project in pharmacology or drug design under the guidance of a research-active faculty member. This culminates in a research paper and presentation. Modules such as "Advanced Drug Discovery, Pharmacology and Toxicology" and "Advanced Systems" expand on topics like drug discovery processes, toxicology, and cutting-edge research in areas like cardiovascular and cancer biology, equipping students with advanced knowledge for a career in pharmacology and drug development.
