This three-year Microbiology degree program provides a comprehensive learning experience, focusing on the principles and applications of microbiology throughout its structure.Year 1 lays the foundation with core modules, including "Professional Skills for Biosciences," which equips students with essential skills in mathematics, data analysis, communication, and ethical considerations. The "Molecular Biology and Genetics" module focuses on the fundamental concepts of DNA structure, function, and transmission, while "Diversity of Life" explores the evolutionary relationships across organisms, including microorganisms. "Concepts in Microbiology" provides an in-depth understanding of the basic biochemistry, physiology, and cell biology of microorganisms. "Biological Chemistry" and "Cell Biology and Physiology" introduce students to essential chemical and biological principles that underlie cellular metabolism and the functioning of living organisms.In Year 2, students deepen their knowledge with modules such as "Molecular Biology," where they learn about the manipulation of genetic material, and "Medical Microbiology," which focuses on pathogens and their clinical relevance. "Environmental Microbiology" explores the relationship between microorganisms and the environment, while "Further Professional Skills for Biosciences" develops advanced research skills such as data visualization, experimental design, and scientific communication.Year 3 provides an opportunity to engage in independent research through the "Research Project" module. This allows students to work within a research group and gain practical experience in hypothesis-driven scientific investigations. In addition, the program includes specialized modules such as "Infection and Immunity," which covers the immune system's response to pathogens, "Techniques and Advances in Molecular Microbiology," which delves into cutting-edge microbial cell biology techniques, and "Microbial Biotechnology," which explores the use of microorganisms in biotechnological applications such as biofuels and bioplastics.
