COURSE CURRICULUM

The one-year intercalated BSc in Clinical Research is designed to provide students with advanced skills in research methods, quantitative analysis, and communication within the health science field. The program offers a blend of taught modules and hands-on research experience, culminating in a dissertation project. Students start by building on their foundational knowledge of research techniques through the Further Quantitative Research Methods module, which dives deeper into statistical methods, study designs, and data analysis. This is complemented by practical sessions where students apply their statistical knowledge to real-world datasets.In the Transferable Skills for Research module, students focus on developing their ability to communicate complex research to a variety of audiences, including both professional peers and the general public. This includes training in writing abstracts, preparing posters, delivering oral presentations, and drafting grant applications, all of which are crucial for a successful research career.The Dissertation module is central to the program, offering students the opportunity to conduct independent research. Throughout the dissertation, students learn how to formulate hypotheses, critically assess literature, and analyze and interpret data. The Introduction to Research Methods module further supports this by providing a broad introduction to health science research, covering both qualitative and quantitative research designs, data collection techniques, and critical appraisal of research literature.Together, these modules equip students with the essential skills needed to succeed in clinical or health science research, providing a strong foundation for future research endeavors or careers in academia and beyond.
