COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng Mechanical Engineering program at the University of East Anglia offers a comprehensive and forward-thinking education that equips students with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in core engineering principles—fluids, thermodynamics, materials, and electronics—while developing teamwork and problem-solving abilities through collaborative, real-world design exercises. The inclusion of competitions like Engineers Without Borders fosters innovation and practical engagement from the outset.Year two deepens the focus on mechanical engineering with modules in vibration analysis, thermofluids, structures, and further mathematics. The engineering design project challenges students to integrate their learning, often through initiatives like the Greenpower electric car competition. Students also gain practical electronics experience, including PCB design and circuit testing, while developing valuable programming skills in Python. This year offers flexibility to explore topics such as renewable energy and power systems, with pathways to extend the degree to MEng or include a year in industry.The final year emphasizes professional readiness and advanced technical skills. Students explore control systems, digital automation, stress analysis, and manufacturing in the context of Industry 4.0. The major individual project provides a capstone opportunity to specialise in an area of interest—often linked to real-world industry problems—promoting research, design, and prototyping. With employability embedded throughout the course, graduates are well-prepared for careers in a diverse range of engineering fields.
