COURSE CURRICULUM
In the first year of the engineering degree, students will focus on building foundational skills in problem-solving, creativity, and innovation, especially in addressing real-world challenges faced by communities impacted by location, climate, or circumstance. The year introduces the core engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical/electronic, and energy engineering. These subjects are taught through hands-on learning, where students engage in experimentation and problem-solving activities. Students will also be exposed to the key principles of engineering and develop a deeper understanding of how to approach engineering problems with creative and innovative solutions.In this year, compulsory modules will guide students through essential engineering concepts and practices. For example, Engineering Design and Practice will give students a comprehensive view of the engineering process, emphasizing sustainability, innovation, and the importance of communication. Students will also be introduced to professional conduct and digital tools used in modern engineering practices. The Engineering Principles and Analysis module delves into the fundamental theories underpinning engineering, such as thermodynamics, materials, hydraulics, and mechanics. Students will apply this knowledge to analyze and solve engineering challenges. Additionally, Mathematical Methods for Science and Engineering revisits key mathematical concepts and introduces advanced techniques to support scientific and engineering problem-solving.The second year builds upon this knowledge, focusing on more advanced topics in electronics, structural mechanics, and mathematics. Students will undertake a design project that integrates the concepts learned in previous years. Those performing well may be eligible to transfer to the MEng Engineering program, which offers additional specialization opportunities and a Year in Industry. By the third year, students will work on a major project that allows them to apply their learning to real-world engineering issues, further refining their skills and preparing them for professional careers in engineering.
