COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year One, students are introduced to the essential disciplines that form the foundation of modern engineering. With a curriculum that integrates mathematics, engineering principles, and practical skills, students begin developing a broad and solid knowledge base. They explore core mechanical, electrical, and energy concepts through lectures, labs, and hands-on projects. Modules like Engineering Design and Practice encourage innovation and problem-solving by simulating real-world challenges, while Engineering Principles and Analysis develops their understanding of crucial scientific theories. Mathematics is approached not only as a theoretical discipline but also as a problem-solving tool, allowing students to analyse data and design systems in practical scenarios.Year Two builds upon this foundation with a deeper dive into applied engineering, especially in the context of sustainability and renewable energy. Students study advanced mathematical methods, including differential equations and numerical analysis, using Python for computational modelling. Modules like Renewable Energy and Analogue and Digital Electronics prepare them for the growing technological demands of the sector. The Engineering Design Project encourages creative thinking in collaborative environments, while Structures and Materials enhances their understanding of how physical forces and materials influence engineering outcomes.In the final year, students shift focus to specialise further through an individual research or design project. Alongside advanced studies in electricity infrastructure, storage, and low-carbon technologies, students undertake the Engineering Major Project. This is a pivotal experience, giving them the opportunity to explore an area of energy engineering that aligns with their career ambitions. They are encouraged to work independently, often with links to industry, which strengthens both their technical competence and their professional readiness.
