COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the Economics program, you will build a strong foundation in both microeconomics and macroeconomics. The microeconomics module will introduce you to how individuals and businesses make decisions based on market forces, while the macroeconomics module focuses on broader economic issues like inflation, unemployment, and the impact of government policies on the economy. You will also explore modules from the Norwich Business School, gaining insight into how economic, political, cultural, and technological factors influence business operations, alongside a solid introduction to accounting.For those who haven't studied A-level mathematics, an introductory mathematics module is available, providing the essential quantitative skills needed for economic analysis. This will cover topics like linear and non-linear functions, differential calculus, and constrained optimization.In the second year, you'll build on this foundation with more advanced studies in both microeconomics and macroeconomics. The intermediate microeconomics module will dive deeper into decision-making under uncertainty and strategic interactions, while the macroeconomics module will expand on economic aggregates like GDP and inflation. A key component of this year is introductory econometrics, where you'll learn how to apply statistical methods to analyze economic data. This will help you test hypotheses and validate economic models, using tools like regression analysis and specialized software.By the final year, you will have the opportunity to specialize further in areas of economics or finance, with modules on topics such as competition policy, financial markets, and risk management. The option to undertake a dissertation or a consulting project will allow you to apply your knowledge and skills in a practical context, preparing you for your future career.
