COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics and Finance program is structured across three years, each offering a combination of foundational knowledge, specialized skills, and real-world applications. In Year 1, the curriculum focuses on building a solid understanding of both microeconomics and macroeconomics, alongside mathematical and statistical methods essential for economic analysis. You’ll learn about economic decision-making processes in Introductory Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, alongside developing practical skills in mathematics through Introductory Mathematics for Economists. To support data-driven insights, you'll engage with Statistics and Data Analytics for Economists, while gaining insights into Behavioural Economics and the application of financial principles through modules like Current Financial Affairs.Year 2 further deepens your knowledge by tackling more complex subjects such as Intermediate Microeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, and Introductory Econometrics. You'll apply econometric techniques to real-world data, refining your skills in data analysis and interpretation. Additionally, the Economics of Corporate Finance module formalizes your understanding of financial principles, focusing on topics such as capital structure and financial evaluation. Optional modules provide flexibility, allowing you to specialize in areas like behavioural economics, global trade, or mathematical economics.In Year 3, you’ll hone your expertise in the financial sector with modules such as The Economics of Financial Markets, exploring asset pricing, behavioural finance, and derivatives. You’ll also have the opportunity to write a dissertation or engage in a consulting project with an external organization, integrating your knowledge in a real-world setting. Elective modules allow you to tailor your studies, with options like Environmental Economics, Labour Economics, or The Economics of Sport.Throughout the program, the ECO Steps module offers support for personal development, academic learning, and employability, ensuring students are well-prepared for their future careers in economics and finance.
