COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of this degree program, students will establish a strong foundation in both computing and digital media. The curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the core principles in object-oriented programming, using languages such as Java, and web development technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. These technical skills are complemented by essential mathematical concepts, which will support students' problem-solving and logical thinking abilities. Alongside the computing modules, students will immerse themselves in digital media, gaining hands-on experience in filmmaking and TV studio production. They will learn the fundamental techniques of camera work, lighting, sound, and editing, while also understanding the critical stages of production, from pre-production to post-production. In addition, the Media Industries module will provide an in-depth exploration of how the media sector operates, focusing on topics like ownership, regulation, and the economic and political factors shaping the industry. The second year takes students deeper into programming, with an introduction to C and C++ to help them understand low-level programming and expand their knowledge of Java. Students will also explore 3D computer graphics and interactive technologies using tools like OpenGL. The third year includes a work placement, where students can gain valuable industry experience, build their professional network, and apply their skills in a real-world environment. Finally, the fourth year allows students to specialize in advanced topics like game development, AI, and digital storytelling, culminating in a major project or dissertation that integrates their learning across the entire program.
