COURSE CURRICULUM

The psychology program offers a structured learning path across four years, each designed to deepen your understanding of psychological theory and research while preparing you for professional roles in the field. In Year 1, you'll develop a solid foundation in psychological theory and research with a focus on real-world applications. You'll explore themes like behavior, social interaction, and self-understanding while honing research skills through both quantitative and qualitative methods. The compulsory Introduction to Psychology module serves as the cornerstone of this year, introducing core topics and laying the groundwork for future academic endeavors.Year 2 builds upon this foundation with a focus on more specialized areas of psychology, including Cognitive and Biological Psychology and Social and Developmental Psychology. These modules expand your understanding of core psychological areas, such as attention, memory, and social influence, while deepening your research capabilities in both qualitative and quantitative analysis. Additionally, students have the opportunity to select optional modules, allowing them to tailor their education to their interests.In Year 3, the program shifts to a work-based placement, offering real-world experience and an opportunity to apply psychological concepts in professional settings. The placement also fosters career development and prepares students for post-graduation opportunities.Finally, Year 4 emphasizes independent research, where students undertake a significant Research Project under the guidance of an academic supervisor. You will also have the option to choose from a range of advanced cognitive psychology modules. This final year allows students to specialize in areas of interest, culminating in a comprehensive exploration of cognitive neuroscience through the Brain and Cognition module.
