COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Biomedicine program at UEA offers a comprehensive, structured approach to biomedical education across three years, combining foundational knowledge with advanced research and clinical practice.In Year 1, students are introduced to the fundamental principles of biomedicine. Modules such as Biological Chemistry, Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Cell Biology and Physiology form the basis for understanding the molecular and cellular foundations of human health. The Introduction to Biomedicine module provides insights into disease mechanisms and how biomedical science translates into diagnosis and treatment. Students also develop essential professional skills, including data analysis, teamwork, and scientific ethics, through the Professional Skills for Biosciences module.Year 2 focuses on expanding knowledge gained in Year 1, with a particular emphasis on human disease processes and clinical laboratory investigations. Students will explore modules such as Human Physiology, Clinical Genetics, and Medical Microbiology, which are crucial for understanding disease mechanisms and diagnostics in areas like blood science, cellular pathology, and clinical immunology. This year deepens understanding of the pathology service units in the NHS and equips students with hands-on experience in specialized clinical laboratory disciplines.In Year 3, students apply their knowledge in specialized modules like Cancer Biology and Translational Biomedicine, addressing complex disease mechanisms such as cancer, inflammatory conditions, and genetic disorders. The highlight of the year is the Research Project, where students conduct independent research, contributing to the development of biomedical knowledge. A focus on professional practice ensures students are well-prepared for the health sector, aligning with the standards of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
