COURSE CURRICULUM

The nursing program spans three years, each focused on developing essential skills and knowledge for effective and person-centred care. In Year 1, students are introduced to professionalism in nursing, including legal and ethical issues, professional values, and boundaries, while learning to promote health and prevent illness across the life course. Practical activities such as Basic Life Support and physiological observations are integrated with theoretical learning. Year 2 builds on life and social sciences to enhance skills in assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating care across various settings. The focus shifts to more complex clinical skills like cardio-respiratory assessments and wound closure. Students also gain hands-on experience through the Nursing Practice and Simulation 2 module, which includes practice placements and simulated learning. In the final year, students focus on complex care, leadership, and service improvement, preparing for their transition to a registered nurse. The curriculum encourages reflective practice and independent learning, with opportunities to select a professional development placement, either locally or internationally. Students also participate in simulated critical incident days and develop skills in managing complex care situations. The Nursing Practice and Simulation 3 module further supports their preparation for the NMC registration, with students gaining leadership experience in coordinating care and refining their clinical skills during both professional development placements and a final ten-week placement.
