COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA in Business Management with International Year One is designed specifically for international students whose first language is not English and who may not meet the traditional academic entry requirements or are unable to begin in the usual September intake. This program offers a strong foundation in academic knowledge and English language skills, ensuring students are fully prepared to progress into the later stages of their undergraduate studies. It spans three terms and combines business-focused learning with English for academic purposes.Students undertake six compulsory academic modules, each worth 20 credits, providing a comprehensive introduction to key business disciplines. Introduction to Business Management and Marketing explores fundamental themes such as organisational culture, leadership, marketing, corporate strategy, and change management. Organisational Behaviour introduces students to core accounting principles, including budgeting, variance analysis, and the double entry system. Quantitative Methods focuses on practical applications of mathematics in a business context, teaching students to analyse and interpret data using tools like SPSS.In addition, students study both macroeconomics and microeconomics. Introductory Macroeconomics examines topics such as national income, fiscal and monetary policy, and economic growth, while Introduction to Microeconomics explores supply and demand, market structures, welfare economics, and game theory. These economics modules provide essential insights into how economies function, giving students the ability to understand wider economic issues that influence business decisions.A key component of the year is the English Language and Study Skills for Business Economics module. Though not credit-bearing, this module supports students in developing their academic English and critical thinking abilities. It includes tasks such as research projects, written reports, and oral presentations to build confidence and fluency in academic communication.By the end of the International Year One, students will have acquired a solid understanding of business and economics while strengthening their academic language and study skills, fully preparing them for the demands of a UK business degree.
