COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Politics and International Relations degree offers a comprehensive and progressive exploration of political systems, global affairs, and political theory. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge through modules covering political ideologies, global politics, political communication, and core social and political theory. Topics such as power, state sovereignty, liberty, and equality are introduced through historical and contemporary perspectives. The second year develops students’ analytical skills through research methodology and comparative politics. Modules like "States, Institutions and Citizens" critically examine how democratic systems function and the challenges they face, while students also learn how to conduct both qualitative and quantitative research. This year encourages deeper engagement with the political process and structures around the world. The third year is spent abroad at a partner institution, giving students a unique chance to broaden their academic and personal horizons. This international experience strengthens their understanding of global politics and enhances their cultural competence. In the final year, students can tailor their studies by choosing from a wide range of optional modules and undertaking a dissertation or group research project. This final stage allows them to explore topics they are passionate about, conduct independent research, and refine the academic and professional skills needed for careers in politics, journalism, diplomacy, public policy, or further study.
