COURSE CURRICULUM

The Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) degree offers an engaging interdisciplinary education that progresses in depth and breadth throughout four years. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundational concepts of microeconomics, macroeconomics, political theory, and philosophical reflection on society and knowledge. Through modules such as Introductory Microeconomics, Understanding Politics Today, and Philosophy of Social Transformation, students begin developing their critical thinking and analytical skills across these disciplines. The second year builds upon this with intermediate-level studies in economics, and a deeper exploration of the philosophical and political structures shaping modern society. Modules like States, Institutions and Citizens and Philosophy of History and Politics prompt students to reflect on power, governance, and contemporary global challenges. In their third year, students expand their academic horizons by studying abroad at one of UEA’s global partner institutions, gaining fresh perspectives and enhancing their adaptability, cultural understanding, and academic independence. The final year focuses on more advanced study and specialisation. Students select from a broad array of options while also engaging in core philosophical debates through modules such as Ethics for Third Years, where they consider complex moral questions and the real-world implications of ethical theory. There is also an opportunity to pursue an independent research project, tailoring the degree to personal interests and future career goals. Overall, the PPE program prepares graduates to tackle complex global issues with analytical rigour and ethical awareness.
