COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the history program, students develop a comprehensive understanding of key historical periods, including Medieval, Early Modern, and Modern history. Core modules cover diverse topics such as gender, rebellion, religious conflict, and state formation in early modern history, as well as the political, social, and economic changes in Europe from the late 18th to the early 20th century. In addition, students explore global history since 1914, with a focus on nationalism, decolonization, climate change, and ideologies like imperialism. Special topics, including witchcraft and interpreting visual sources such as photographs and maps, offer deeper insights into specific historical themes. The emphasis is on developing strong research, analytical, and debate skills, foundational for the study of history.In the second year, students have the flexibility to tailor their studies by choosing from a wide range of modules, allowing them to focus on topics that align with their interests. There are no compulsory modules, offering students the freedom to deepen their expertise or explore new areas. Opportunities to study abroad, learn new languages, or take modules from other disciplines further enrich the learning experience.In the third year, students spend time studying abroad at one of the university’s partner institutions. This year offers academic, cultural, and personal growth, with the added benefit of enhancing communication skills and boosting employability. In the final year, students specialize in specific areas of history, either through advanced modules or a dissertation, allowing them to apply their knowledge to complex historical research.
