COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the course, you will be introduced to the fundamental creative and technical aspects of filmmaking and television production. You’ll gain hands-on experience in TV studio work, learning live and recorded production methods through modules like Introduction to Television Studio Production. Simultaneously, you’ll begin to develop your creative voice through modules like Writing and Creating Media, where you’ll experiment with a variety of formats, from podcasts to scripts. Alongside practical production work, you’ll begin your academic journey into media analysis, with modules like Analysing Film and Analysing Television, which introduce key concepts such as mise-en-scène, editing, sound, and narrative structures. Making Film and Video offers a collaborative space to understand directing, cinematography, and the dynamics of production teams, while Introduction to the Film and TV Industry gives you insight into how media projects are developed, funded, and pitched in the real world.In your second year, you will build on your production skills through more advanced single-camera filmmaking modules. Factual Video Production and Single Camera Production will give you the opportunity to refine your technical skills, develop your specialisms, and produce more complex work. You will work in teams on a series of projects, developing a deeper understanding of directing, cinematography, and editing, while growing your individual creative voice and interests. This year also includes options for industry placements, offering valuable real-world experience.In your third year, you will study abroad, gaining international experience and the chance to explore your subject from a new cultural and academic perspective. This year enhances personal growth and builds a distinctive CV. Finally, in your fourth year, you’ll have the opportunity to produce an independent creative project, such as a short film or showreel. You can also explore more specialised modules in areas like digital storytelling, film adaptation, and cinematography, helping you shape your creative identity and prepare for future careers.
