COURSE CURRICULUM

In your first year, you will establish a strong foundation in education by studying key concepts and theories from various disciplines, including sociology, psychology, history, and philosophy. These areas will help you gain a deeper understanding of how education operates within society today and how it varies across the world. You'll examine real-life examples to see how educational systems differ in various countries, as well as explore how technology is influencing modern educational practices. Additionally, this year will introduce you to essential study skills, including reflection and academic writing, which will be valuable throughout your degree and beyond.The first year is designed to give you a comprehensive understanding of education and its many facets. You’ll engage with educational theory and practice, learning how to apply key philosophical and sociological ideas to real-world educational settings. By exploring the work of theorists in psychology and sociology, you will develop an understanding of how children and young people learn, and how their socio-economic backgrounds influence their educational experiences. You'll also study global education, which looks at the differences in educational systems and approaches around the world, giving you a broader perspective on global educational issues.In addition to theory, you will gain practical skills that will help you throughout your degree. The focus on study techniques, research skills, and academic writing will enable you to think critically about educational issues and communicate your ideas effectively. By the end of your first year, you will have the flexibility to specialize in an area of education that interests you, such as Learning and Teaching, Childhood and Culture, or Special Educational Needs and Inclusion. This foundational year prepares you for the more specialized and hands-on learning experiences that come in later stages of the degree.
