COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Drama degree at UEA offers a comprehensive and immersive training in both practical theatre-making and critical performance studies. In your first year, you’ll develop key skills in acting, collaborative theatre-making, and technical production, while exploring global performance traditions and theatre history. Working hands-on in the Drama Studio, you’ll learn how to think creatively and work collaboratively from the outset.Your second year builds on this foundation, deepening your understanding of the creative industries and applied theatre. You'll explore how theatre is made, funded, programd, and delivered, both within and beyond traditional performance spaces. Alongside this, a wide range of optional modules allows you to specialise in areas such as acting, directing, popular performance, technical theatre, or scriptwriting.In your third year, you’ll have the unique opportunity to study abroad at one of our global partner institutions. This international experience enables you to see theatre and performance from new cultural perspectives, build confidence and independence, and gain valuable skills that are highly prized by employers.In your final year, you’ll bring together everything you’ve learned through advanced modules in performance and identity, experimental theatre, or dissertation work. The year culminates in a major production, where you’ll take on both a performance and production role, collaborating with your peers to stage a fully-resourced public show. This final project acts as a launchpad for your future career in theatre, the wider creative industries, or further study.
