COURSE CURRICULUM

In your first year, you will begin the journey of integrating writing, performance, and critical thinking. This year sets the foundation for your degree as you develop your skills in both Drama and Creative Writing. On the Drama side, you will begin your technical theatre training, allowing you to gain practical experience and the skills needed to work independently in the Drama studio. You will also start actor training, exploring various acting techniques while learning about theatre practices from around the world. On the Creative Writing side, you will test your skills in different forms, including prose, poetry, and scriptwriting, before moving into more advanced areas like genre and collaborative writing. Through modules like Scriptwriting and Performance, Working in the Theatre 1, and The Actor’s Craft, you will gain practical experience and the foundational skills needed for both performance and writing. Creative Writing modules such as Creative Writing: Beginnings introduce you to the essential techniques of prose, poetry, and script, helping you discover your writerly identity. Modules like Applied Drama and Technical Skills and Theatre: Theory and Performance further enhance your practical abilities by offering hands-on experience in both performance and technical aspects of theatre. Additionally, you will explore global theatres and postwar British drama, expanding your knowledge of theatre history and practices. Your first year is designed to build a strong foundation in both the creative and theoretical aspects of Drama and Creative Writing, preparing you for more advanced studies in the following years.
