COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the PPE program, students lay the groundwork for understanding complex social systems through compulsory modules in microeconomics, macroeconomics, political theory, communication, philosophy, and quantitative skills. Topics such as economic decision-making, the structure of political institutions, and the role of ideology and social transformation are introduced, along with hands-on learning in areas like political communication and mathematical methods used in economic analysis. This multidisciplinary foundation allows students to connect abstract theories with real-world dynamics. In the second year, students build on this by engaging with intermediate economics modules and exploring philosophical and political perspectives on global issues. Modules like Philosophy of History and Politics and States, Institutions and Citizens deepen their understanding of democracy, power, and contemporary political challenges, while also sharpening their critical analysis and argumentation skills. The third year shifts to practical application through a full-time placement in a relevant field, giving students firsthand experience in the professional world, from public policy to private sector roles. This immersive year enhances their employability and allows them to see how their academic learning translates into the workplace. In the final year, students return to academic study with more advanced interdisciplinary options, culminating in a core ethics module that challenges them to think deeply about moral responsibility and the application of ethical reasoning to real-life issues. They also have the opportunity to conduct independent research, choosing a dissertation, consultancy project or policy paper aligned with their individual interests and aspirations. This structure ensures that by graduation, students have developed both the intellectual depth and practical experience needed for a wide range of careers or further study.
