COURSE CURRICULUM

The philosophy course is structured to provide students with a progressive and comprehensive understanding of philosophical thought and practice. In the first year, students are introduced to a wide range of philosophical ideas, both historical and contemporary, through modules that explore fundamental questions such as the meaning of life, classic and modern philosophical texts, logic and reasoning, and the ethical dimensions of technology and social transformation. The aim is to stimulate critical thinking and develop analytical skills, regardless of prior exposure to philosophy. In the second year, students delve deeper into philosophical traditions and contemporary debates, with core modules in political philosophy and ethics. These are complemented by optional modules in areas such as environmental philosophy, literature, and the philosophy of mind, allowing students to tailor their studies to their interests or even take modules from related disciplines. A placement module is also available for those interested in applying philosophical skills in real-world contexts. The final year encourages advanced engagement with complex topics through modules on the human condition, mind and language, and advanced ethics. Students have the option to pursue independent research through a dissertation or work closely with peers and tutors on special topics of mutual interest. Throughout the course, there is a strong emphasis on the historical development of ideas, intercultural perspectives, and the practical relevance of philosophy in addressing societal and personal challenges. The program is designed not only to deepen intellectual understanding but also to prepare students for diverse future careers by honing their ability to think clearly, reason effectively, and engage with complex ethical and conceptual issues.
