COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Film and Television Production degree offers a comprehensive exploration of both the creative and technical aspects of filmmaking. In the first year, students are introduced to a range of skills including scriptwriting, producing, directing, and editing, as well as live and recorded TV studio production. This year focuses on providing students with a solid foundation in both practical and theoretical areas. Students will work with the university’s state-of-the-art facilities, gaining hands-on experience in various aspects of film and television production. They will also explore key debates in film and television studies, which will help them critically analyze media texts from both contemporary and historical perspectives. Modules like Introduction to Television Studio Production and Writing and Creating Media allow students to develop practical skills while honing their creative voices. Additionally, modules such as Analysing Television and Analysing Film teach students how to deconstruct and understand the deeper meanings and techniques behind media productions. In the second year, students continue to build on their filmmaking skills, with a particular focus on single camera production and factual video production. These modules provide students with the opportunity to develop a more specialized approach to filmmaking, allowing them to focus on their areas of interest. They will also gain more confidence in managing production processes and working in teams. The placement module gives students valuable real-world industry experience, helping them establish a connection between their academic studies and the professional world. In the final year, students have the chance to develop their own independent creative projects, allowing them to explore specialized topics such as cinematography, film adaptation, and digital storytelling, as well as produce a final showreel that demonstrates their skills and creativity.
