In your final year, you will have the chance to shape your studies around your specific interests in both drama and literature. You can take part in a major final-year drama production, giving you the opportunity to collaborate closely with peers and staff to deliver a fully realised piece of theatre. This experience is designed to mirror professional practice, helping you to refine your creative and technical skills in a production setting. If you prefer to explore theoretical or experimental areas of performance, you can choose modules that investigate the relationship between identity and performance or those that encourage bold and unconventional approaches to theatre-making. These modules allow you to challenge yourself creatively while developing your personal style and voice as a performer or theatre-make.Many students also choose to undertake a dissertation in their final year, providing a chance to conduct in-depth research on a topic they are passionate about. The dissertation offers a space for critical thinking and independent exploration, whether you're analysing literary texts, examining theatre practices, or combining both disciplines. This project can serve as a stepping stone for further academic work or professional pathways, showcasing your ability to manage a complex, self-directed project.In addition to drama-focused modules, you will take at least one specialist literature module. These modules offer deep dives into specific literary topics, such as medieval monsters, crime fiction, feminist writing, and other areas that reflect current research and cultural debates. They help to further sharpen your analytical and interpretive skills while allowing you to engage with literature from fresh and focused perspectives.
